FROM PASTOR JAMES: Several things are happening over the next few weeks so we’ll be taking a break from our sermon series on Ruth.  This Sunday we’ll take a look at Psalm 24; it’s a favorite of mine and it will be fun to preach on for the first time.  “The earth is the LORD’s and all that is in it…”  This is the nugget of the whole Psalm – everything else is ‘frosting on the cake’.  Can you imagine anything or anyone in the earth that is not the Lord’s?  (Me, either!)

I also want to remind you that I’m planning two weeks of vacation this month.  The actual dates of this vacation are July 16-29 and I’ll even be taking a week off from St. Mary’s as well!  We will only be out of town in Sonoma County from the 19th through the 24th so please do call me if any pastoral emergencies arise.  Otherwise, we will be blessed to have our good friend Rev. Denise Cordova preach for us on July 22nd and 29th.  You will remember Denise as the preacher for my installation last fall and she will be joining as a member this Sunday.  We’ll resume Ruth on August 5th…this looks to be a great summer!

Have a great week, friends!!!

LEADERS AMONG US:

Many thanks to these people for helping with worship this Sunday:

Refreshments: Pot Luck (be sure to bring your appetite, too!)

Scripture: Mary Koons

Greeter: Diane Morrison

Flowers:  Alice Arthur

DISASTER HELP UPDATES:

We have been encouraging help for those affected by the volcano and lava flows in Hawaii for the last several weeks.  We also want to keep the needs of those in Puerto Rick alive as they continue their recovery efforts and brace themselves for the 2018 Hurricane Season.

If you wish to donate to our recovery efforts in Puerto Rico by mail, make checks payable to United Church of Christ, with “Emergency USA Fund” in the memo.   Mail to: United Church of Christ c/o Financial Services office, 700 Prospect Ave., Cleveland OH 44115

Un-designated giving allows the United Church of Christ to respond where resources are needed most but if you prefer to designate your gift you may do so by noting the disaster or refugee/immigration emergency (i.e “Puerto Rico” or “Hawaii”) in the designated box on the on-line form or in the memo line of the check.

100% of funds to the United Church of Christ designated for U.S. disaster relief are used for disaster relief and rehabilitation programming within the United States.  100% of funds to the United Church of Christ for U.S. refugee resettlement/immigration emergencies are used for providing humanitarian assistance in these situations within the United States.

FROM MARILYN SUNNERGREN, MODERATER OF SVC:  Thanks to everyone who submitted their thoughts regarding Pastor James’ performance this last (and his first) year. Pastor and I will be going thru them Thursday after the finance meeting. I will still accept your thoughts whether by index card or email (sunnemare@gmail.com) if you wish to submit something this week.  – Marilyn

PROJECT MANA: We are continuing our Sunday donations for MANA (Making Adequate Nutrition Available) which are distributed daily to the surrounding communities of Incline Villages, Kings Beach, Truckee, Tahoe City and to folks in need who are homebound.  There is a basket under the sign-in table and Karen Kimball or the Holtebecks will pick up weekly, but we’re making it way too easy for them!   Let’s fill it up!  THANK YOU FOR YOUR DONATIONS!

We will continue to sort the donations each week to deliver what is appropriate to the Family Resource Center and to MANA as well.  The Family Resource Center appreciates warm socks, T-shirts, jackets, sweatshirts, etc. for the homeless.
